Anatomy of a Murder 1959
It is such a delight to see James Stewart when he is at his best. He gives an atmosphere and a special presence that is hard to describe, it just works. I have seen a lot of courtroom dramas, and this is so far number 3 on my list after Mr Smith Goes to Washington 1939 (also Stewart) and my favourite courtroom drama; Witness for the Prosecution 1957. The film has a running time of 160 min (2h 40 min) but is absolutely not boring to watch. Stewart steels the show and until the very end we as audience have been given so much information, that we´re not sure what have happened in the case and the movie really creates an exciting mystery to be solved. A really enjoyable movie!
