Independence Day: Resurgence 2016

After 20 years we get the sequel to Independence Day (1996), Independence Day: Resurgence. Roland Emmerich, who is famously known for his big disaster-films like Independence Day (1996), The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and 2012 (2009). After 20 years of preparation for the next alien-attack, earth is attacked by an a hostile alien-ship and must now defend itself with modern weapon. Jeff Goldblum is back, as well as Bill Pullman from the original cast, but Will Smith is missing, which was smart of him because this movie is not needed at all. The story is a mashup one of the original, there is no heart and specially good humour in the movie and there are no characters you really care about. A few good scenes with Jeff Goldblum can’t save this movie. The main focus here was obviously the visual effects which looks quite good, apart from the aliens which seems very generic and lacks texture. This movie will earn back its budget and even hints at more sequels to come. Lets hope they will be a lot better than this generic piece of a film.

Score: 4/10
